CM will strive to improve State economy: Stephen

SANDAKAN: The State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and his team will continue to strive to improve the State’s economy. 

State Health and People’s Wellbeing cum Sandakan MP Datuk Stephen Wong said this includes the Sandakan district which is also in its economic enhancement efforts. 

He said it also allows for job opportunities in the market and for local children no longer having to migrate to Kuala Lumpur or other districts to find employment. 

“This is one of our commitments and it is hoped that efforts to improve the economy will inevitably help the people,” he said. 

“We also hope that the existing unity among the various races and religions will be sustained, we are pleased that it is still practiced and this can be seen through celebrations shared together,” he said. 

He said this during a Chinese New Year celebration at the Bandar Sandakan market, here, Sunday. 

Also present were State Youth and Sports Minister cum Tanjong Papat Assemblyman Datuk Frankie Poon. 

The celebration held for the first time here was jointly organised by the Sandakan Parliamentary Office and Tanjong Papat Assembly office. 

The event featured various activities including lion and dragon dance performances, singing and mandarin oranges being distributed to the guests. 

On another matter, Wong said they are aware that many more facilities needed to be upgraded in the Sandakan Market. 

He said the matter has been looked into and identified for the convenience of traders and the public. 

Meanwhile, Poon in his speech that they are happy with the presence of the public at the event. 

“Although this is held for the first time, we see many from different religion celebrating it, let’s preserve the existing unity,” he said. 

In other development, under the new government administration, efforts to improve the State economy including the district will hopefully help young people get jobs here. - Mardinah Jikur
