Elevation of  Kemabong  to district  may take  time: YB

The elevation of Kemabong to a full-fledged district may take time, said its Assemblyman Jamawi Jaafar (pic). He said Kemabong currently has 29,000 residents and one of the requirements for a sub-district to be upgraded to a full district is a population of 40,000.

“As such, one of the ways to achieve the population is by bringing outsiders to visit Kemabong because they can be considered as one of the residents here if they keep on going to and fro the sub-district,” he said when officiating the Kemabong Chinese New Year celebration at SJKC Yuk Nam Paal, near here.

“That is why we have to strengthen our tourism sector to attract more visitors, especially to spots like Rundum Highland and Marais Centre.”

Jamawi also said he plans to conduct a dialogue session with the Chinese communities in Kemabong to know more about their problems.

“I have visited many Kadazandusun Murut-majority places, from Rundum to Kampung Amboi, during the first eight months as the elected representative to solve problems faced by the people.

“For example, power supply has been provided to several hillside villages before Christmas last year,” he said.

He also said the disrupted water supply in Kemabong was resolved with the assistance of the Infrastructure Development Ministry.

Also present were Tenom MP Noorita Sual, and Kemabong Assistant District Officer Djamiludin. - Mail Mathew
