Sabahans want Parti Pribumi
Published on: Wednesday, October 24, 2018

Kota Kinabalu: Barely two weeks into the soft launch of Pertubuhan Kinabalu Bersatu (PKB) in Kuala Lumpur, the political vehicle of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) has been deluged with inquiries from Sabah, wanting to know when it or the Mahathir-led PPBM will extend its wings here.

PKB Chairman Adzmi KK Juatan (pic) said he did not expect the Daily Express front page story last week to spur their interest, saying most of the inquiries were from Sabah Umno grassroots supporters besides those from other parties and elected representatives.

Sabah and Sarawak were the only states that Parti Pribumi did not contest in the general election early this year. In Sabah, it decided to stay out due to PPBM's special arrangement with Parti Warisan Sabah.

PPBM led by Tun Dr Mahathir is among members of the Pakatan Harapan coalition that jettisoned the 60-year-old Umno-led Barisan Nasional to the dustbin in the recent general election.

It also saw history being made with the comeback of Dr Mahathir as Prime Minister for the second time and 20 years after he left office as the longest serving PM. In so doing, Dr Mahathir also set a world record by becoming the oldest to head a government at 93. He has promised to pass the baton to PKR President-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim within two years.

"PKB had its soft launch in Shah Alam on Oct. 13 and was officiated by the PPBM Supreme Council Member Abu Bakar Yahya who is also a Political Secretary to Dr Mahathir.

"My mobile phone hasn't stopped ringing and my WhatsApp is bombarded with messages asking when PPBM will expand its wing to Sabah including when they could fill up the form and join the party.

"I was not prepared for such an outcome. My focus was on PKB and to help fellow Sabahans in the peninsula," he said. Adzmi had said that PKB was formed as a special platform for the people of Sabah who have migrated to the peninsula and are currently working or staying there with their spouses and children.

He also said joining PKB as members would also mean automatic membership to PPBM.

"My WhatsApp is loaded with over 100 messages asking about PPBM and to join the party if its expands its wing to Sabah.

"I could not provide answers to all their questions and interests as I have to refer to the top leadership of PPBM pertaining to opening the PPBM branch in Sabah," he said.

He said at least 10 YBs from several parties in Sabah including Umno, have contacted him pertaining to joining PPBM if spreads to Sabah.

He said those wanting to join the party claimed they would bring their many followers, supporters and even families to be registered as PPBM members. - Hayati Dzulkifli
