KK cop jailed for molest

Kota Kinabalu: A 40-year-old policeman was jailed two years and ordered given one stroke of the cane by the Magistrate's Court, here, after he was convicted of molesting a woman two years ago.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus found Mahadir Abu Nawas guilty of the charge and ordered him to serve the sentence from the date of his conviction on Aug 13.

However, Mahadir managed to obtain a stay of execution of the sentence pending an appeal to the High Court against the court's decision.

He was released on a bail of RM2,500 in two local sureties.

Mahadir was accused of molesting a 30-year-old woman in a Perodua MyVi car at the car park in front of the building of the Criminal Investigation Division at the City Police Station here at 7.40pm on Oct 26, 2016.


The charge under Section 354 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years or with a fine or with whipping or with any two of such punishments on conviction.

Six prosecution's witnesses and two defence's witnesses testified in the court throughout the trial.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Umar Faiz prosecuted while counsel Aaron Mah stood in for counsel Ram Singh, who represented Mahadir. – Jo Ann Mool
