Kota Kinabalu: There is no indication of bird flu or chicken disease outbreak in Sabah as of now, said State Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Junz Wong, following an unsubstantiated warning about several chicken farms in Tamparuli being infected with bird flu.He said only one farm in the said district showed an increase of mortality rate, believed caused by the weather change, as the farm is a conventional open house type which is subjected to inclement weather.

"However, the Sabah Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) will do further tests to ascertain if there is any disease outbreak. For the moment, it is still safe to consume properly prepared and cooked chicken," he said.

Meanwhile, State Health and People's Wellbeing Minister Stephen Wong said there have been no reports of bird flu attack so far and the DVS is investigating a poultry farm in Kauluan, Tuaran.

In the viral WhatsApp message, it was stated that three farms in Tamparuli are suffering from bird flu attack and that all the chickens have died within two days.

The message also advised people against touching live chicken or consuming chicken meat. - Jeremy S Zabala
