Kota Kinabalu: Sabah junior lawn bowlers emerged champions in the Junior Talent Fours Carnival tournament organised by National Sports Council in Negeri Sembilan on March 7-10.Abi Afiq Ahmad, Muhammad Alif Aiman Affendy, Asmirul Arispadilla and Muhammad Nurnizam Subper beat the Selangor team 10-5 in the final to take the top prize.

The foursome who were in their first outing outside the State had earlier defeated Terengganu 14-7 in the semi-final.

Sabah Lawn Bowls Association President Ladislaus Maluda, who has been impressed with the athletes since the Sabah Games last year, was not too surprised with the result and congratulated coaches Affendy Tan and Nizam Atoh for the achievement by the players.

"I have been observing closely the performance of at least two of them during Saga 2017 and I was not only impressed with their command of the game but also their level of maturity at such a young age.

"They were all individual medal winners in Sandakan and Asmirul Arispadilla was the singles finalist.

My congratulations to both coach Affendy Tan and coach Nizam Atoh for their part in developing the players."

He added he will have a discussion with the coaches on how to capitalise on their immense talents.

"I shall discuss with the coaches to work out a programme to build up their potentials and groom them to be part of our future Sukma boys team, and we are definitely going to expose them more in our local tournaments and also national tournaments." - GL Oh
